Stop 09 · Belle Glade
Torry Island Observation Tower
Nature
Wildlife observation tower on Torry Island in Lake Okeechobee, part of the Belle Glade-run campground. Climb the deck for panoramic lake views and serious birding — bald eagles, ospreys, snail kites, roseate spoonbills, blue-winged teal. Two walking trails, hiking on the Herbert Hoover Dike, and Slim's Fish Camp next door. Sunset is a bonus.
- What to order
- Bring binoculars — the bird list is legit (bald eagles, ospreys, snail kites, roseate spoonbills, teal). Time the climb for morning if birding is the point; sunset if the view is. Slim's Fish Camp is right there for lunch or dinner.
- Hours
- Part of Torry Island Campground — day-use access, check current hours. The birding is year-round; the golden light peaks at sunset.
