MDPL Art Deco Historic District Tour
The Miami Design Preservation League has been running this 90-minute guided walk out of the Art Deco Welcome Center on Ocean Drive since MDPL itself invented the field — the organization Barbara Baer Capitman founded in 1976 is the reason the district exists as a district. The route covers Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue, and Espanola Way, unpacking Art Deco proper, Mediterranean Revival, and MiMo (Miami Modern) on the same block-by-block walk. Guides are volunteer preservationists, not scripted actors, and the tour ticket includes admission to the small museum inside the Welcome Center.
- What to order
- Book the 10:30a tour ($35 adult, $30 student/senior) to beat the heat; the Friday 6:30p slot catches the neon coming on. Advance booking recommended in peak season. A self-guided audio-tour app (English, Spanish, German, French) is the cheaper alternative if the group time doesn't fit.
- Hours
- Daily 10:30a tour · additional Fri 6:30p tour · Welcome Center daily 9a–5p
