Stop 10 · Ormond Beach

The Casements

John D. Rockefeller's winter home from 1918 until his death in 1937 — the oilman spent his last two decades on the Halifax River side of Ormond Beach, and the three-story frame house (named for its casement windows) is now the city's cultural center and a National Register site. Free self-guided tours during operating hours cover the Rockefeller Period Room, a Boy Scouts of America memorabilia collection, and a Hungarian folk art and festival costume collection. Rockefeller Gardens next door — wide riverfront paths, festival grounds, benches over the Halifax — stays open 6a–10p daily and is the reason to stop even if the house is closed.

What to order
Come between 8a and 5p weekdays (or before noon Saturday) for the free house tour; the gardens are open 6a–10p daily and are the better bet if you're pulling up outside museum hours. Park on Riverside Dr; the whole visit runs under an hour unless you're lingering by the river.
Hours
Museum Mon–Fri 8a–5p, Sat 8a–12p, closed Sun · Rockefeller Gardens daily 6a–10p
